Privacy notice

This notice covers this website and the Meles waitlist. Meles, the product, is in development; it will have its own notice when it launches.

Who we are

Meles is run by Clinton Crous, an individual, who is the controller of the personal data described here. To reach them about your data, email privacy@meles.app.

What we collect

Only what you give us when you join the waitlist, and where you came from:

• your email address;
• your two answers: what you use today, and what you want first;
• where you came from: the campaign tags in the link you followed (the utm_ parameters), the address of the page that linked to us without its query, and the page you signed up on;
• when you confirmed.

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Our emails don't track whether you open them or click their links.

Why, and on what basis

• To send the confirmation email, then the updates every two weeks and the news when Meles opens that you asked for, and to decide what to build first from your answers. The basis is your consent, which you give by confirming, and can withdraw at any time.
• To stop the form being abused. The server that takes sign-ups keeps your IP address in memory for ten minutes to limit repeated attempts. It is never written to disk. The basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and not emailing people who didn't ask.

We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it for anything else.

Who processes it for us

• Resend sends our emails and keeps the waitlist. It is in the United States.
• DigitalOcean hosts this website and the server that takes sign-ups, in the United States.
• Sentry receives error reports from that server, in the United States. They never include your email address.
• Cloudflare answers for our domain and forwards email you send to our addresses. It is in the United States.

Each works under its own data processing terms. For data from the UK and the European Economic Area, those terms include the standard contractual clauses for transfers to the United States.

How long we keep it

• Until you confirm, we keep nothing. The confirmation link carries your details, encrypted, and stops working after 48 hours.
• After you confirm, until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address only as a record that you opted out, so we never email you again, unless you ask us to delete that too.
• If Meles never launches, we delete the waitlist.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent. Every update has a one-click unsubscribe, or email privacy@meles.app and we'll reply within a month.

You can also complain to your data protection authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU, the authority in your country; in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it, and we'll tell the waitlist about anything material.
